This post discusses why I always try to go with the flow, rather than pushing my way through life. Not to say this mindset felt natural, as I’ve been a hard-headed, focused doer my entire life – trying to control, conjure and create my dream life at any cost! This post explains how I’ve learned to surrender to the power of God working through the universe, as a means of accomplishing more. I also share a tip for incorporating more joy and flow in your life.
Hustla With Flow
I think the reason I often feel so inspired, is because I wait for inspiration to capture me. I don’t chase after ideas, people or things anymore. Swimming upstream through life takes too much effort. Life, I’ve learned, is best lived when things feel natural, smooth and effortless. In this state, even hustling and striving somehow still feel like bliss.
Life Should Feel Light & Expansive
Flow is my favorite word these days. Flow, to me, means allowing life to unfold, and me unfolding with it. Allowing God to swoop me up in things that make my heart sing, and going along for the ride. Flow means allowing my own self to transform, change and grow – in order to step into new things with grace.
I wasn’t always one to go with the flow. My entire childhood was filled with striving, perfectionism, and doing anything I could to be loved and noticed. I felt exhausted, depressed, and unaccomplished – no matter how much I achieved. Thankfully, God used some very trying experiences in my life to break me of my need to push and pull, finding my ultimate peace in surrender.
Once I feel I’m forcing, dragging, or being exhausted by an endeavor – I have learned to put it down, or let it go altogether. Life should feel light and expansive, not heavy and constrictive. We are too precious to spend our life in a job, relationship or circumstance that doesn’t feel loving.
Getting Good At Quitting
This means I’m also ok with dropping things, walking away from things, and saying no. This means I’m at peace with not finishing everything. I’m also at peace with putting my heart and soul into something – only for it to fail. So long as the journey feels beautiful, it is always worth it to me.
When I was in my early 20s, I was hired with KPMG as an accountant. I majored in accounting at Long Island University Post. Problem was, I hated the job and everything about working in corporate America. I cried daily and felt the life being sucked out from under me. I felt useless, confused and bored at work.
Against my parent’s wishes, I quit 6 months in. For years I felt bad about it, until now. Once I hit my 30s and began to experience entrepreneurial success, I was reassured as to why I left my uninspiring job. I was meant for the joy that the arts, people and entrepreneurship brought me – from the comfort of my own business.
One thing to note is that most of what I’ve created that felt amazing, did end up with its own version of success. It’s when I poured myself into something void of passion, that it all fell apart. Following my bliss is what has always made me the most successful.
I love what I do, and I do what I love. Period.
Trusting In God’s Will
My blind trust in the will and sovereignty of God comes naturally to me since I was raised in a church than impressed God’s will very strongly. I was taught that everything has a reason, a time, a season. That there is a good reason for all that occurs, even tragedy or illness. God is always in control, simultaneously delivering His own glory and our good.
Consider flowing more, and fighting less. You’ll be amazed at the opportunities, abundance and success you will fall into. Things you never imagined possible.
What in your life feels heavy or constrictive? Do less of this. What feels light, fun and expansive? Do more of this. If you continue to apply this method, one day, you’ll wake up and realize your life is filled with only things you love, too. You were born for joy, so let your joy guide you.

I consider bodylove to be a form of godliness. To criticize, ignore or hate my body is to turn against my own self – to deny that what God has given me, is good. I refuse to live in that kind of distain for God’s creation. To love my body is to accept all things in my life as a gift. I choose to enjoy my body to the fullest, showering it with love and gratitude daily! Amen. 😘 #curvy #curves #curvaceous #plussizemodel #plussizeasian #asianmodel #koreanmodel #bodyconfidence #beautiful #innerbeauty #feminine #bodylove #curvybabe #size16 #jennylynchung
